Ballet: A classical style of expressive dancing based on precise conventional steps with gestures and movements of grace and fluidity. This class will focus on vocabulary and technique of traditional ballet movements, as well as, gracefulness and focus. Ballet is the basis for many other styles of dance. A knowledge of ballet will help in other classes. Contemporary/Modern Dance:Modern dance is a more relaxed, free style of dance in which choreographers use emotions and moods to design their own steps, in contrast to ballet's structured code of steps. It has a deliberate use of gravity, whereas ballet is rigid in its technique.
Jazz: Jazz dances has very strong roots in Ballet (as many dance forms do) but is more upbeat. In this class we will focus on vocabulary of dance terms, technique and attitude. As well as high jumps and turns. Jazz can be many things, serious, comical, theatrical, sassy, etc. Everyone who dances Jazz will have fun.
Hip Hop: Generally done to hip-hop music, this style uses sharp (popping) movements along with fluidity, footwork and tricks. Hip Hop is much lower to the ground and more of a freestyle type of dance. This class will involve some Acro such as rolls, cartwheels, etc.
Lyrical:A combination of Ballet, Jazz and Modern styles. Dance combinations follow the words or story in the song.
Tap: A form of dance characterized by using the sound of one's tap shoes hitting the floor. In this class students will learn various tap steps and rhythms.
Technique/Conditioning: This class focuses on dance technique, muscle conditioning, across the floor skills and flexibility. This class is recommended for students who are also enrolled in other Level 3 and 4 classes.
Musical Theater: This class will incorporate acting along with dancing to songs from musicals. A great class to prepare for the stage!
Tiny Tot Dance:This class is for ages 18 months to 3 and will focus on basic dance movement and coordination skills. This is a great time to get young dancers acclimated with a class setting. One parent is allowed to attend the class with the child. This class will not perform in recitals.
Pointé:Class is offered to students who have a strong understanding of Ballet Technique. Dancers will begin with pre-pointé shoes and move into full pointé shoes. Dancers must be approved for this class. Open to dancers in levels 3 and 4.
